AMBRA
ELECTRIC TRUCK

Two groups of car OEMs(1) in Korea have monopolized each market of compact trucks(2) and small trucks(3) respectively. The vehicle platforms used for their truck models were licensed from Japanese car OEMs decades ago and remained as significantly less safe and less comfortable when compared to passenger cars of these days. Their products have planted false hypothesis in the minds of Korean customers that “It is necessary to sacrifice the safety and convenience of the driver to carry cargo.” A few new small Korean OEMs started to supply ultra-compact trucks(3) in Korea, as Korean government enacted regulations regarding this new and world-widely unique category of on-road vehicles in 2018. Although all the new ultra-compact trucks delivered to customers or being developed by other players are equipped with electric powertrain instead of internal-combustion engines, they still carry the old paradigm established by global OEMs.

AMBRA was designed based on a shifted paradigm that “Good trucks should be able to load, unload, and transport more cargo more safely and more comfortably.”

THE 'SKATEBOARD' PLATFORM

AMBRA는 400km의 일충전 주행거리를 구현할 용량의 축전지 팩을 탑재할 수 있다. AMBRA는 고성능 전기 승용차와 같이 앞바퀴와 뒷바퀴 사이의 차량 바닥 공간의 거의 전부를 2차전지 셀로 채울 수 있는 소위 ‘skateboard’ 플랫폼을 갖고 있다.

HUMAN-CENTERED DESIGN

AMBRA로는 화물을 쉽게 싣고 내릴 수 있다. 국내에서 소비자가 살 수 있는 경형/소형 화물차의 적재함의 바닥 높이(상면고)는 720mm 내지 780mm인데 반하여 AMBRA의 상면고는 400mm에 불과하다.

SAFETY & EFFICIENCY

AMBRA performs better than other trucks on slippery roads. All AMBRA models are equipped with front-wheel drives or 4WDs. Around 70% of roads in Korea have some slope and most areas in Korea have snow in winter. Rear-wheel drive vehicles including luxury cars imported from Germany often experience difficulty in winter in Korea.

DRIVING COMFORT

AMBRA has ride quality superior to other light-duty trucks. AMBRA’s wheelbase is 2,700 mm, while those of compact trucks and small trucks monopolizing Korea market are 1,840 mm and 2,640 mm respectively. Two models of AMBRA, AMBRA100 (ultra-compact truck) and AMBRA500(compact truck), will be available.

COLLISION PERFORMANCE

AMBRA has a fairly high level of collision performance as a truck. AMBRA includes an aluminum structure designed to absorb the collision energy of the vehicle while folding like an accordion in the event of a frontal collision. This is the same concept that Tesla or Audi applied to their full aluminum body. The body frame of AMBRA is made of aluminum. AMBRA has an impact bar installed on both sides of the door and its c-pillar has a shape of “h” to better protect passengers from other vehicles rushing towards the door of AMBRA.
